Georg Simmel

Georg Simmel (1858–1918) was a German philosopher and sociologist. He studied history, psychology of peoples, and philosophy at the University of Berlin, where he began teaching philosophy as a privatdozent in 1885. In 1914, he received a full professorship in philosophy at the University of Strasbourg. Simmel was one of the founding figures of sociology and helped establish the German Sociological Association in 1909. His fields of interest included cultural philosophy, social psychology, urban sociology, and the forms of social interaction. His best-known works include „The Philosophy of Money“ (1900), „The Metropolis and Mental Life“ (1903), and „Sociology“ (1908).
