Georg Schmidt

Georg Schmidt (born 1951) is a German historian of the early modern period. He studied history, politics and education in Giessen and Tübingen, earning his doctorate in 1982 and his habilitation in Tübingen in 1989. From 1993, he was Professor of Early Modern History at Friedrich Schiller University Jena; he later became professor emeritus. Schmidt is regarded as a specialist in the history of the Thirty Years’ War. His publications include “Der Dreißigjährige Krieg,” “Die Reiter der Apokalypse. Geschichte des Dreißigjährigen Krieges,” “Wandel durch Vernunft. Deutsche Geschichte im 18. Jahrhundert,” and “Geschichte des alten Reiches.”
