Georg Kreis

Georg Kreis (born 1943) is a Swiss historian. He was Professor of Modern General History and Swiss History at the University of Basel, where he became founding director of the interdisciplinary Europe Institute in 1993. From 1995 to 2011, he chaired the Swiss Federal Commission against Racism, and from 1996 to 2001 he served on the Independent Commission of Experts Switzerland–Second World War. Kreis has published extensively on twentieth-century history and edited the «Handbuch der Geschichte der Schweiz» (Handbook of Swiss History).
