Gavin Newsom, born in 1967, is an American politician affiliated with the Democratic Party. He served as mayor of San Francisco from 2004 to 2011 and subsequently spent eight years as lieutenant governor of California. In 2019, he was elected governor of the state. His political priorities have included marriage equality, immigrant rights, climate protection, stricter gun laws, an expanded welfare state, and the abolition of the death penalty.
