Gavin Francis

Gavin Francis (born 1975 in Fife, Scotland) is a trained physician and nonfiction author. After qualifying as a doctor, he travelled extensively across all the continents. His books include the Sunday Times bestseller *Adventures in Human Being*, *Empire Antarctica* and *Islands: Mapping the Geography of Desire*, which also appeared on the Sunday Times bestseller list. His works have been translated into 19 languages. Francis has contributed to publications including the Guardian, the Times, the New York Review of Books and the London Review of Books, and was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
