Gary Paulsen

Gary Paulsen (1939–2021) was an award-winning author of children’s and young adult books. Before becoming a writer, he worked as an electrician or electrical engineer in the military. He decided to begin writing despite having no previous publishing experience. His best-known works include *Dogsong* and *Hatchet* (published in German as *Allein in der Wildnis*). Paulsen received the Newbery Medal three times, including for *Dogsong* and *Hatchet*. His books have been translated into 18 languages.
