Garry Kasparov (born 1963 in Baku) is a Russian chess player and former World Chess Champion. He won the world title in 1985 and remained at the top of the chess world until 2000. From 1984 until his retirement from competitive chess in 2005, he was the world’s number-one ranked player with only brief interruptions. Kasparov’s dynamic playing style had a major influence on chess in the late 20th century. After his chess career, he devoted himself to politics and writing. His publications include “Deep Thinking: Where Machine Intelligence Ends and Human Creativity Begins.”
