Born in 1949, Garry Disher grew up on a farm in rural South Australia. The Australian writer published novels, short stories, crime fiction, children’s books and nonfiction. His work received several awards, including the German Crime Prize and Australia’s Ned Kelly Award, and was nominated for the Booker Prize. His debut novel, “Gier,” about professional criminal Wyatt, won the German Crime Prize in 2000; his first police novel, “Drachenmann,” received the same award in 2002.
