Gaius Iulius Caesar was a Roman military commander and writer of classical antiquity. In his account of the Gallic War, he described his campaigns in Gaul and conflicts involving Germanic peoples and Britons. The work is one of the best-known prose texts in Latin literature and has been used as a school text in German-speaking countries for around 200 years.
