Gaetano Donizetti, whose full name was Domenico Gaetano Maria Donizetti, was an Italian opera composer associated with bel canto. His best-known works include “Anna Bolena” (1830), “L’elisir d’amore” (1832), “Lucrezia Borgia” (1833), “Lucia di Lammermoor” and “Maria Stuarda” (both 1835), “La fille du régiment” and “La favorite” (both 1840), and “Don Pasquale” (1843). Many of his operas remain part of the international standard repertoire.
