Gabrielle Palmer

Gabrielle Palmer is a nutritionist and author. In the 1970s, she worked as a lactation consultant and helped found Baby Milk Action in England, an organisation campaigning against the unethical marketing of infant formula. In the 1980s, she lived and worked as a volunteer in Mozambique. She later developed and delivered breastfeeding training programmes for the WHO and UNICEF and worked as an independent consultant for health and development organisations. In 1999, she became UNICEF’s HIV and Infant Feeding Officer. From 2001 to 2007, she taught at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where she had also studied nutrition. She wrote three books, including *The Politics of Breastfeeding*.
