Gabriele Krone-Schmalz

Gabriele Krone-Schmalz (born 1949) is a German journalist and scholar of Eastern Europe. She studied East European history, political science and Slavic studies. From 1987 to 1991, she was an ARD correspondent based in Moscow, and she subsequently moderated the ARD Kulturweltspiegel until 1997. She taught television and journalism as a professor at Hochschule Iserlohn until 2022. Krone-Schmalz has received, among other honors, the Grimme Prize twice and the Pushkin Medal. She was also awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, First Class, for the quality of her television reporting.
