Gabriel Laub (1928–1998) was born in Poland. He studied at the Hochschule für Politik und Sozialwissenschaften in Prague, graduating with a degree in economics. He subsequently worked as a reporter, film journalist, feuilleton writer and translator. From 1968 onward, he worked as a writer and critic. He became known especially for his satirical contributions to the weekly newspaper Die Zeit and for collections of aphorisms and satire, including Verärgerte Logik, Erlaubte Freiheiten, Enthüllungen des nackten Kaisers and Ur-Laub zum Denken. Together with Hans-Georg Rauch, he published Doppelfinten, a volume combining texts and drawings.
