Fritz Baumgarten

Fritz Baumgarten (1883–1966) was a German illustrator. Born in Reudnitz near Leipzig, he trained as a lithographer and studied at the Royal Academies of Art in Dresden and Munich. He initially supported himself through occasional commissions and by designing postcards. He later specialized in children’s book illustration and created artwork for nearly 500 titles. He is particularly known for his imaginative scenes featuring distinctive gnome figures.
