Friedrich Christian Delius (1943–2022) grew up in Hesse and studied literary studies at the Free University and the Technical University of Berlin from 1963 onward. From 1970 to 1978, he worked as a literary editor at Klaus Wagenbach and Rotbuch before becoming a freelance writer. He published novels, short stories, prose and poetry, including Die Birnen von Ribbeck, Der Sonntag, an dem ich Weltmeister wurde, Bildnis der Mutter als junge Frau and Die Frau, für die ich den Computer erfand. Delius received, among other distinctions, the Fontane Prize and the Joseph Breitbach Prize; in 2011 he was awarded the Georg Büchner Prize.
