Friedemann Schulz von Thun (born 1944) studied psychology, education and philosophy in Hamburg. He earned his doctorate under Reinhard Tausch and Inghard Langer with a dissertation on comprehensibility in the communication of knowledge, and subsequently completed his habilitation. From 1976 to 2009, he was a professor of psychology, later specifically educational psychology, at the University of Hamburg. He developed communication training programs for teachers, managers and, later, professionals in various fields. Schulz von Thun is the author of numerous books; his trilogy Miteinander reden is regarded as a standard work of communication psychology. He also edited the series Miteinander reden – Praxis.
