Frederick Marryat

Frederick Marryat (1792–1848) was an English writer and Royal Navy officer. Born in London, he entered the navy at the age of fourteen. During his service he travelled widely, took part in naval battles, and became a captain at the age of twenty-three. He later published numerous novels, most of them set at sea, and was one of the popular maritime adventure writers of his time.
