Franziska Tanneberger grew up in Berlin-Pankow in the 1980s and spent her childhood holidays in dry and wet moorlands on the island of Usedom. She studied landscape ecology and nature conservation at the University of Greifswald, specializing in peatland ecology. After working as an expert, in nature conservation projects in Poland and Belarus, and at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research in Leipzig, she returned to the University of Greifswald in 2012. From 2015 onward, she headed the Greifswald Mire Centre. She completed her habilitation in January 2023.
