Franz Hohler (born 1943 in Biel, Switzerland) is a Swiss writer, cabaret artist and songwriter. He grew up in Olten and studied German and Romance languages and literature in Zurich for five semesters before leaving university to become a freelance artist. In 1965 he performed his literary and musical solo programme “pizzicato,” which was also successfully presented in Berlin. His work includes novels, short stories, poetry, plays, cabaret programmes and children’s books. He received numerous awards, including the Solothurn Literature Prize, the Aargau Culture Prize, the City of Zurich Arts Prize, the Swiss Youth Book Prize, the Kassel Literary Prize for Grotesque Humor and the Johann Peter Hebel Prize.
