François Truffaut (1932–1984) was a French film director and critic. Born in Paris, he began working professionally at the age of 14 and was encouraged by André Bazin to write his first film reviews. In 1954, Truffaut made his first film, the short „Une visite“. Over the course of his career, he directed more than 20 films, including „The 400 Blows“, „Jules and Jim“, „Fahrenheit 451“ and „The Last Metro“. He maintained a close friendship with Alfred Hitchcock until Hitchcock’s death.
