Franco Cardini

Franco Cardini (born 1940) is a historian. He studied in Florence, Poitiers, and Moscow and taught, among other places, in Paris, Göttingen, Vienna, and Boston. From 1989 until his retirement, he was Professor of Medieval History at the University of Florence. Cardini published numerous books on medieval history, including a biography of Emperor Frederick Barbarossa and *Europe and Islam: The History of a Misunderstanding*, both of which also appeared in German.
