Florence Parry Heide

Florence Parry Heide was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1919. She studied English in Los Angeles and later worked for several radio stations, newspapers, and advertising agencies. She began writing children’s books only after all five of her children had started school. Her work received numerous awards, including the German Youth Literature Prize for “Schorschi schrumpft.” Heide died in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 2011.
