Federico Garcia Lorca

Federico García Lorca (1898–1936) was a Spanish poet and playwright and is regarded as one of the most important authors of the 20th century. Born in Fuente Vaqueros near Granada, he became a leading representative of Spain’s Generation of ’27. His best-known works include the poetry collection “Romancero Gitano” and the plays “Blood Wedding” (1933), “Yerma” (1934), and “The House of Bernarda Alba” (1936). In 1929 he traveled to New York, where he wrote the poetry collection “Poet in New York.” Shortly after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, García Lorca was arrested and shot near Granada on 19 August 1936.
