Fabio Geda, born in Turin in 1972, is an Italian writer and journalist. He studied communication sciences and worked for many years as a teacher and in social services with young people and refugee families. He also wrote for newspapers. His first novel, *Emil’s Marvelous Journey*, was a surprise success in Italy. He gained international recognition with *In the Sea There Are Crocodiles*, based on the life story of Afghan refugee Enaiatollah Akbari and translated into numerous languages. Geda met Akbari at a reading, and their encounter led to the book. His other works include *The Summer at the End of the Century*, *Winter Snow, Stars at Night*, and *A Sunday with Elena*.
