Evan Gershkovich was born in 1991 in Princeton, New Jersey. He studied philosophy and began his journalism career at The New York Times. From 2017, he worked as a correspondent in Moscow, reporting for The Moscow Times and the French news agency AFP, and from 2022 for The Wall Street Journal. Gershkovich is the son of Jewish immigrants who fled the Soviet Union for the United States in the late 1970s.
