Eva Strittmatter

Eva Strittmatter (1930–2011) was a German poet and writer. She studied German literature in Berlin from 1947 to 1951, then worked for the German Writers’ Association until 1953 before becoming a freelance writer in 1954. She published poetry, prose, children’s books and literary criticism. Her notable poetry collections include “Ich mach ein Lied aus Stille,” “Mondschnee liegt auf den Wiesen” and “Der Winter nach der schlimmen Liebe”; a collection of her “Sämtlichen Gedichte” was published in 2006. She received the Heinrich Heine Prize in 1975 and the Walter Bauer Prize in 1998. Eva Strittmatter died in Berlin on 3 January 2011.
