Eugen Drewermann

Author · 23 books

Eugen Drewermann (born 1940) studied philosophy and Catholic theology and completed his habilitation with a work on the “Structures of Evil in the Biblical Primeval History.” He worked as a priest, lecturer and private docent, and trained as a psychoanalyst. Drewermann published numerous books on theology, psychology and social and political issues. Because of his critical views on the Church and religion, the Catholic Church withdrew his teaching authorization in the early 1990s and suspended him from the priesthood. For his commitment to peace, he received the Erich Fromm Prize in 2007, the international Albert Schweitzer Prize in 2011 and the Hermann Hesse Society’s Prize in 2019. He also devoted many years to the study of fairy tales, particularly the Grimms’ Fairy Tales.
