Esther Dischereit

Esther Dischereit, born in 1952 in Heppenheim, Germany, began publishing in 1985. She wrote prose, essays and poetry, as well as works for radio and theatre. With »Joëmis Tisch. Eine jüdische Geschichte« (1988) and »Übungen jüdisch zu sein« (1996), she became known as an important voice of the second generation after the Shoah in Germany. Her other publications include »Blumen für Otello. Über die Verbrechen aus Jena« (2014), »Großgesichtiges Kind« (2014), »Sometimes a Single Leaf« (2019) and »Mama darf ich das Deutschlandlied singen«. From 2012 to 2017, she was a professor at the University of Applied Arts Vienna; in 2019, she held the DAAD Chair in Contemporary Poetics at New York University. She received the Erich Fried Prize in 2009.
