Essie Fox is from Herefordshire and studied English literature at the University of Sheffield. She subsequently worked for newspapers and publishing houses in London. In 2011, she published her first novel, “The Somnambulist,” a Victorian Gothic novel that was nominated for the UK National Book Award. It was followed by the Victorian novels “Elijah’s Mermaid” and “The Goddess and the Thief.” With “The Last Days of Leda Grey,” she turned to England in the 1970s.
