Erving Goffman

Erving Goffman (1922–1982) was a Canadian sociologist. He was born in Mannville, Alberta, and died in Philadelphia. Goffman studied sociology in Toronto and Chicago and taught, among other institutions, at the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He became known for his contributions to the theory of social interaction, particularly concepts such as frame analysis and impression management.
