Ernst Friedrich

Ernst Friedrich was a German writer and pacifist. In 1925, he founded the Anti-War Museum in Berlin, regarded as the first museum dedicated to opposing war and violence. Its foundation drew in part on his research and materials for the photo documentation “Krieg dem Kriege” (1924). After the museum was destroyed by the National Socialists in March 1933, Friedrich and his family fled Germany. He went via Switzerland and Belgium to France, where he later founded the “Ile de la Paix,” a German-French youth meeting center. Ernst Friedrich died in 1967.
