Ernst Engelke (born 1941) is a theologian, social pedagogue, and psychologist. He studied philosophy, theology, education, and psychology and was Professor of Social Work at the University of Applied Sciences in Würzburg from 1980 to 2007. Engelke has been involved in the hospice and palliative-care movement, accompanying terminally ill and dying people and contributing to thanatological research and palliative-care training. He helped establish four palliative-care units and two hospices. Engelke has published twelve specialist books and numerous articles on social work, palliative medicine, palliative nursing, and hospice care.
