Erika Pluhar

Erika Pluhar, born in Vienna in 1939, is a writer, actress and singer. After training at the Max Reinhardt Seminar, she worked at Vienna’s Burgtheater until 1999. She appeared in films, wrote and performed songs, and published novels as well as collections of poetry, songs and short prose. Her books include Die öffentliche Frau, Anna. Eine Kindheit, Die Stimme erheben, Hedwig heißt man doch nicht mehr and Gitti. In 2000, she received the Golden Decoration of Honour of the City of Vienna; in 2009, she was awarded the Austrian Booksellers’ Prize for Tolerance in Thought and Action.
