Erich Zenger

Erich Zenger (1939–2010) was a Catholic theologian and biblical scholar. He studied philosophy, theology and Oriental studies in Rome, Jerusalem, Heidelberg, Münster and Würzburg, and was ordained a priest in 1964. After earning his doctorate in theology in 1971, he taught in Eichstätt from 1971 to 1973 and at the University of Münster from 1973 to 2004, where he served as professor of Old Testament and headed the university’s seminar for the history and religion of the Old Testament. His research focused on Jewish-Christian dialogue, the Pentateuch and the Psalms. Zenger was an editor of Herder’s Theological Commentary on the Old Testament.
