Erica Fischer was born in 1943 in St Albans, near London, to parents who had emigrated from Vienna, and grew up in Vienna after their return in 1948. She studied at the University of Vienna’s Institute of Interpreting and was one of the co-founders of Vienna’s autonomous women’s movement in 1972. From the mid-1970s onward, she worked as a journalist, author and translator. Her documentary narrative *Aimée & Jaguar* (1994) became an international bestseller and was translated into numerous languages.
