Eric Voegelin

Eric Voegelin (1901–1985), born in Cologne, was a political scientist and philosopher of history. After studying in Vienna, the United States, and France, he taught at the University of Vienna until he was dismissed by the National Socialists in 1938. He then emigrated to the United States, where he taught at several universities. From 1958 to 1969, he was a professor of political science in Munich, where he founded a political institute. He later taught at Stanford University until 1974.
