Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt

Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt, born in 1960 in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon near Lyon, is a French-Belgian writer, playwright and film director. He studied piano in Lyon and philosophy in Paris, and later taught for several years. He became known as a dramatist in the 1990s. His best-known works include *Monsieur Ibrahim and the Flowers of the Koran*, *Oscar and the Lady in Pink*, *Hotel of the Two Worlds* and *My Life with Mozart*. His writing often explores philosophical and religious themes, and his works have been translated into numerous languages. He has received several awards, including the German Book Prize in 2004. In 2016, he was elected a member of the Académie Goncourt.
