Eric Berne

Eric Berne (1910–1970) was born in Montreal, Canada. He studied medicine at McGill University in Montreal and received his doctorate in 1935 with a dissertation on psychiatry. From 1941 to 1943, he worked as a psychiatrist at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute. He later taught at the University of California Medical School and directed the San Francisco Social Psychiatry Seminar. Berne founded transactional analysis, which has been applied in various areas of psychotherapy worldwide.
