Erhard Busek (1941–2022) was an Austrian politician of the Austrian People’s Party. His positions included general secretary of the party, Vienna city councillor and deputy mayor, Federal Minister for Science and Research, and Minister of Education. From 1991 to 1995, he served as Vice Chancellor of Austria and chairman of the Austrian People’s Party. Busek was particularly active in European integration and Southeastern Europe: he coordinated the South East European Cooperative Initiative and, from 2002 to 2008, the Stability Pact for Southeastern Europe. He was president of the European Forum Alpbach from 2000 to 2012 and also headed the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra.
