Elsemarie Maletzke

Elsemarie Maletzke, born in Oberhessen in 1947, began her career in the editorial office of the satirical magazine Pardon and later worked as a German teacher in Ireland. After returning to Germany, she was an editor at Titanic and Pflasterstrand. She wrote travel books about Ireland and Dublin, novels and a garden mystery, as well as biographies of women writers in English literature, including the Brontës, Jane Austen, George Eliot and Elizabeth Bowen. She also edited works by the Brontës. In 2009, she received the Robert Gernhardt Prize jointly with Christian Golusda and Andreas Maier; in 2023, she was awarded the Ben Witter Prize.
