Elke Kahr

Elke Kahr, born in 1961, was adopted at the age of three by a saleswoman and a locksmith and grew up in a working-class district of Graz. After attending primary, lower secondary and commercial schools, she completed the evening business academy and passed its final examination. She joined the Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) in 1983. On 17 November 2021, she was elected mayor of Graz.
