Elizabeth Shaw

Elizabeth Shaw (1920–1992) was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. She worked as an author and illustrator, creating distinctive cartoons for magazines and publishers and illustrating books by, among others, Bertolt Brecht, Mark Twain, James Krüss, and Astrid Lindgren. From 1963 onward, she also wrote and illustrated her own stories, several of which became classics of children’s literature. Her work received, among other honors, the Art Prize of the Akademie der Künste in Berlin and the Käthe Kollwitz Prize.
