Elisa Hoven

Elisa Hoven, born in Berlin in 1982, is a legal scholar and professor of criminal law at Leipzig University. She studied at Freie Universität Berlin, Radboud University Nijmegen and the University of Cambridge, and earned a doctorate in international criminal law. Her professional experience includes work as a research assistant at the Institute for Peace and Security Law at the University of Cologne, for civil parties in proceedings before the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia, and for a judge at the International Criminal Court. In 2023, she co-authored the nonfiction book “Strafsachen” with Thomas Weigend and the children’s book “Der war’s” with Juli Zeh. Her first novel, “Dunkle Momente,” was published in 2025. Hoven also serves as a judge on the Saxon Constitutional Court.
