Elinor Mordaunt (1872–1942) was the pen name of Evelyn May Clowes, who was born in Cotgrave, Nottinghamshire. She emigrated to Australia in 1902, where her first short stories were published. By the time of her death, she had published more than 50 books, including novels, short-story collections, travel writing and children’s books. A particular passion of the widely travelled author was travel itself; her works include The Book of Adventures, an account of a voyage around the world by sea.
