Elie Wiesel

Elie Wiesel (1928–2016) was a Jewish writer and academic. In 1944, as a teenager, he was deported from Romania to Auschwitz because of his Jewish heritage. His autobiographical memoir *Night*, published in 1958, became an international bestseller, selling millions of copies. From 1978, Wiesel was a professor of humanities at Boston University. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986.
