Einhard Bezzel

Einhard Bezzel (died May 2022) was a German zoologist, ornithologist, and science journalist. Born in Illertissen, he grew up in Munich and earned a doctorate in zoology. After several years in teaching, he became director of the State Bird Observatory in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. From 1971 to 1997, he edited the Journal für Ornithologie, and from 1997 to 2007 he was editor-in-chief of the magazine Der Falke. His ornithological research took him to remote regions on every continent. Bezzel published more than 500 scholarly articles, several standard works, and around 20 bird identification guides. He served as vice president of the German Ornithologists’ Society and was later made an honorary member.
