Egon Friedell

Egon Friedell (1878–1938) was an Austrian writer, cultural historian, journalist, theatre critic, and cabaret artist. He was a prominent figure in Vienna’s cultural life and was friends with Peter Altenberg and Alfred Polgar. From 1922 to 1927, he worked as an actor with Max Reinhardt in Berlin and Vienna. His best-known work is the “Cultural History of the Modern Age.” Friedell died by suicide in Vienna in 1938.
