Edwidge Danticat

Edwidge Danticat (born 1969 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti) is a Haitian-American writer. At the age of twelve, she followed her parents to the United States. Her debut novel, Breath, Eyes, Memory, was published in German in 1996 as Atem, Augen, Erinnerungen. Her work includes novels, short stories, books for children and young adults, and the travel narrative After the Dance: A Walk Through Carnival in Jacmel. She also edited the anthologies The Butterfly’s Way: Voices from the Haitian Diaspora in the United States, Haiti Noir, and Haiti Noir 2. The Dew Breaker was shortlisted for the National Book Critics Circle Award. Danticat has received, among other honors, the American Book Award and the LiBeraturpreis.
