Edward Albee

Edward Albee (1928–2016) was an American playwright. Born in Washington, he was adopted shortly afterward by the theater entrepreneur Reed Albee and grew up in New York. After studying at Trinity College and Columbia University, he worked in a variety of jobs, including department-store clerk, telegram messenger, and bartender. His international career began in 1959 with the Berlin production of his one-act play The Zoo Story at the Schillertheater workshop. Albee had a lifelong interest in music and theater.
