Edmond und Jules de Goncourt

Edmond de Goncourt (1822–1896) and his brother Jules de Goncourt (1830–1870) were French writers of the 19th century. Together they wrote novels including “Germinie Lacerteux” and “Manette Salomon,” as well as diaries and influential works on the art and cultural history of the 18th century. Through their estate, they established the Académie Goncourt and founded the Prix Goncourt, one of France’s most distinguished literary prizes.
